Gym Safety Tips
Here are some important instructions necessary before and during a work out in a Gym:
· Consult your physician before starting any exercise program, It is important especially for persons over the age of 35 years & those with pre-existing health problems. Most often your doctor will applaud your decision but may have some restrictions or cautions if you have certain health problems or risks.
. Do not exercise immediately after meals.
. Always wear appropriate clothing & shoes.
· Always warm-up before exercise on machines to prevent injury. Start out at an easy pace and light exertion before increasing your exertion to your target level. Take couple of minutes to cool down at a lower exertion level after your main session.
. Make gradual increases. For strength training start with lighter weights and for cardio exercise increase the time and work on your form before increasing your speed and exertion level.
· Improper & excessive workout may be harmful to your health. Use good technique like if you use bad posture and over stride on the treadmill you will get aches and pains. Working on core stability, positioning and posture will help prevent injuries and sore muscles.
· If during exercise you feel any dizziness, nausea, cramps, faintness or chest pain immediately stop the work-out & consult a physician.
. Wear light and loose fitting tops for easy movements. Clothes made of sweat absorbing qualities to be used.
. Wear athletic shoes for weight bearing activities.
. The work out area should be clear and clean, nothing should be left lying around causing stumble or slipping.
. Since some machines moving parts and there is always risk of crushing or pinching of fingers and toes if not paid attention. Make sure pins and collars used on weight machines are all intact. Stay clear of others working out around you.
. Cover all areas of your exposed skin whenever exercise outdoors, better to wear sunscreen. Wear a cap in hot weather.
These are some of the instructions I find important for a person but this list is not exhausted, you can add some more as you progress your exercise with the period of time and experience.
